First edition. Withg faults a very good copy of Katherine Hooker's travels through out of the way places in Italy. In this her third book on the subject, Mrs. Hooker and her daughter Marion record their travel with prose and photographs of the Abruzzi, Campania, Apulia, Basillicata and Calabria, bypassing the major centers and concentrating on the small hill towns and villages that had preserved the customs and traditions of 19th century Italy.
"Combinded with a sympathetic understanding of the mind of the Italian villager Mrs. Hooker has an unusually fresh and human style that sets her work apart from most books of travel."
