Plates. <br> A rare and important monograph on Tibetan art. Giuseppe Vincenzo Tucci was an orientalist, explorer and religious historian at the University of Rome. Tucci was one the greatest Tibetologists during the early 20th century. Many of the thangkas collected in this book were subsequently destroyed in the Sino-Tibetan conflict. <br> An artistic and symbolic illustration of 172 Tibetan paintings preceeded by a survey of the historical, artistic, literary and religious development of Tibetan culture with an article of P. Pelliot on a Mongol edict, the translation of historical documents and an app. on prebuddhistic ideas of Tibet. <br> This is an oversized or heavy book, that requires additional postage for international delivery outside the US.
