About This Item
Paris: Baudry's European Library, 1835. First Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. First edition thus, following the British edition but preceding the US edition. Text is in English. Very good in original green cloth with elaborate gilt decoration on front board with "Lycee Imperial Louis Le Grand" in gilt lettering. The backstrip has been replaced with a dark green leather spine with four raised bands and gilt lettering and decorations. Interior pages have a vertical water line about 1/2" in from the foredge of the page block, and moderate foxing throughout. The page block is a little stiff, but the paper is still fairly supple and lays flat. About 6 3/4" high and 4 1/2" wide, with 270 pages. An unusual copy of this classic Irving title of his travels across the US.
