The two volume first edition of this work, in the publisher's original cloth binding.Illustrated with a frontispieces to each volume, and with four further plates to each volume. Collated, complete.Author Charles St John was an English naturalist and sportsman. His account of the stalking of the Muckle Hart of Benmore and was influential in the development of Scottish red deer stalking, and has been described as a classic among deer-stalkers. In this work, he gives an account of his exploration of Sutherland, as well as hunting, fishing, and the natural history of the area.With a sixteen page publisher's catalogue to the rear of volume II. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Boards bright, with discolouration to back strips. Bumping to spine heads and tails, with small losses of cloth in these regions. Head of front hinge of volume I starting, with board firmly held, and cloth fraying. Remaining hinges strained and firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright, with spotting and instances of foxing throughout. Good
