A second edition, also very scarce, was published three years later.Illustrated with a folding map frontispiece.Mitchell was a Scottish author, science writer, and antiquarian. In 1816, he travelled Belgium, Holland, the Rhine, and northern France, detailing its recovery from the devastation wrought by the Napoleonic Wars. Rebacked, in the publisher's original paper covered boards. Retaining the original endpapers.Mitchell provided his readers with information on the food, language, dress and customs of the region.
