About This Item

Munich; 1952/53: Christ Unterwegs. Octavo. 576 pages. An extensive collection of narratives of the expulsion and cruel treatment by the Nazi invaders, the Russian army and finally by the Polish Bolsheviks. The accounts are remarkably free from hatred and show how the survivors were merely thankful the horror was over. The churches were destroyed not simply for anti-religious reasons but to find wood for fire, gold and silver from the art and anything of value for the various armies that passed through. A very good copy bound in black cloth lettered and decoratively stamped in gilt, spine lettering gilt, spine fading, front hinge weakening but not broken through.
