Cloth bindings in remarkably nice condition, with bright gilt turbaned man and tent on boards and bright gilt titles on the spines. A beautiful set with no foxing, no stains and no prior owner marks. The author, Zacharias Topelius (1818-1898), through his work as a writer, journalist, and professor of history, played a pivotal role in the creation of the Finnish identity in the 19th century. En Resa i Finland (Travel in Finland) employs illustrations by the most famous Finnish artists of the time. George Chaworth Musters (1841-1879) "The King of Patagonia" led a remarkable life. Born in Naples, he was orphaned by the age of four, and brought up by his uncle Hammond who had sailed with Fitzroy aboard "The Beagle". He lived and travelled throughout South America, and was recognised by the RGS for his contributions to the geographical knowledge of the continent.
His wife Mary is the ' Mary ' of Byron's poem, 'The Dream.'

Cleghorn, George (1716–1789), physician. Stationed in Minorca 1736-1749. The comprehensive introduction which covers the Minorquines, festivals, witchcraft and evil, climate, agriculture, wine, minerals, the natural history of the island, lists of plants and animals, together with the native names of several species, is followed by seven chapters on epidemical diseases, plus weather and Meteorological tables.
