About This Item

Boston, Massachusetts: Boston, MA: Houghton Mifflin Company ( HMCo), 1942, 1st Edition, Later Printing , 1942. -----------( later Printing of the 1st Edition ) ---hardcover, a Near Fine example, pencil gift inscription on front endpaper dated 1961, light green cloth with dark green lettering and tree on front board, in a very attractive Good price clipped dustjacket, some chips and flakes and short tears, jacket is now in a hi-quality mylar protector, ---no date on the title page, rear panel is advertising paddle0to-the Sea, rear flap is advertising PADDLE and this book but does not mention SEABIRD which was 1948 so this could pre-date or SEABIRD (1948) or the publisher never changed the dustjacket to mention SEABIRD after it's publication in 1948, 1961 gift inscription kinda makes me think this more like 1959/1960/1961, ---The book tells the story of a lone cottonwood tree encountered as a sapling by a Kansa Indian boy in 1610, on what became the Santa Fe Trail, and the events that passed by the tree: buffalo migrations, warring tribes, the coming of the Spaniards, French trappers, and trade caravans on the Trail. Eventually the tree dies and is made into an ox-yoke and travels down the Trail itself in 1834 to Santa Fe, New Mexico., any image directly beside this listing is the actual book and not a generic photo.///NOT SIGNED ---GUARANTEED to be AVAILABLE/// ---sizes are approximate (generally within 1/8 inch)------. Later Printing. Hard Cover. Near Fine (see description)/Good (see description). Illus. by Holling Clancy Holling. 8.75w x 11.25h Inches. Price Clipped Jacket.
