Gand [Ghent, Belgium]: C. Annoot-Braeckman, 1841. Hard Cover. Very Good. [6], xxxiii, [1], 439, [1] p.: 2 leaves of plates (1 portrait, 1 folded facsimile); 26 cm. Contemporary green morocco spine with gilt-tooled spine title and decoration. Green-and-black marbled paper over boards. All page edges marbled. Marbled endpapers. Includes a list of subscribers. Small bookplate on front fixed endpaper reading: "Ex Libris A. Garrigues DM." Back fixed endpaper bears very small (bookdealer's?) label with blue printed border; in the center is written: "C. Carrie 1." Andreas Vesalius (1514-1564) was a Belgian physician and author of an important early work on the human anatomy, De Humani Corporis Fabrica. He was known variously as Andreas Vesalius, Andreas van Wesel, and Andre Vesale. In Very Good Condition: edges and boards are rubbed; spine is sunned; loss of some gilt at ends of spine; endpaper is separating over hinges, but still solid; portrait is slightly foxed; very occasional foxing in text; otherwise clean and tight. Very scarce.
