List of illustrations, preface by author, appendix, bibliography, notes and instincts. Black-and-white illustrated frontispiece, of Ivan Turgenev, painted in 1846. Between pages 176 and 177 there are 16 pages of black-and-white photography and illustrations. 1/4 brown coloured cloth covered back strip with gilt and metallic copper coloured titles. 3/4 green coloured boards with gilt letters, L & S, embossed to the front panel. Illustrated dustwrapper with green, black and ochre coloured titles to the front panel and back strip A biography of Ivan Turgenev, 19th-century Russian writer. The book is not a critical examination of Turgenev's literary output, but, of the man himself  enigmatic and unknown  and the world in which he lived, and the people he knew and associated with. A little softening of the back strip edges with minor ageing of the text block edges. Rubbing of the dustwrapper edges and panels. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
