Wells, Edward Elgar, Max Beerbohm and John Masefield.With critical appreciations to accompany each portrait by various hands.William Rothenstein (1872-1945) was an English painter and artist, best known for his portraits and his work as a war artist during the World Wars. He was knighted in 1913.A first edition, limited to two thousand copies, of which 1,200 were for sale in Great Britain and the remainder for sale in the United States.A delightful and smart copy of this work. In a quarter cloth binding. Externally very smart, with just a little minor edgewear. Ownership bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Near Fine
