About This Item

New York, New York: American Women Against Communism, 1939. Toned with one short tear to upper edge, else fine.. Typewritten letter from the American Women Against Communism organization, addressed to New York assemblyman William M. Stuart regarding HUAC. The letter notifies Stuart of the organization's resolution that "It is the duty of every legislator before whom comes the question of the continuance of the Dies Committee investigating un-American activities, to vote for such continuance with adequate appropriation. All opposition comes from Communists and their sympathizers who fear that exposure will break down their plan to destroy our American form of Government". Measures 11" by 8.75"; typewritten with addressee added in black ink. Dies Committee- The Special Committee on Un-American Activities, also known as the Dies Committee, was created on May 26, 1938, with the approval of House Resolution 282, which authorized the Speaker of the House to appoint a special committee of seven members to investigate un-American activities in the United States, domestic and foreign.
