Putnam,, 1955. 8vo., First Edition thus, with frontispiece and 36 plates on 16; black cloth, gilt back, backstrip a little dulled else a very good, bright, clean copy. A U-boat classic by a leading war correspondent, first published as 'So War der U-Boot Krieg' (Bielefeld, 1952). It is one of the earliest (and best) attempts at a balanced German view of the conflict. Well illustrated, with some carefully chosen interiors and uncommon portraits of notable commanders. SCARCE.
