About This Item

Garden City, New York: Doubleday & Company, Inc.,, 1969. He felt all at once like an ineffectual moth, fluttering at the windowpane of reality, dimly seeing it from outside First edition, first printing, of one of the author's most acclaimed works, a "masterpiece of malleability" that has resisted several attempts to adapt it for the screen; director Michel Gondry shelved work on his adaptation in 2014, remarking that "it was a dream, but in life you can't always have what you want" (quoted in Henz). Octavo. Original grey cloth, spine lettered in silver. With dust jacket, designed by Peter Rauch. Spine slightly cocked, light rubbing and a couple of slight bumps to extremities, contents clean; jacket rubbed, a few creases and tiny nicks to extremities, unclipped: a very good copy in very good jacket. Patrick Henz, "Neuromancer, Blade Runner & Ubik - 'Ethics Inside'", 18 November 2018, available online; Sam Jordison, "Philip K Dick's Ubik", 18 March 2014, available online.

Synopsis

Ubik is a 1969 science fiction novel by American writer Philip K. Dick. In 2005, Time magazine named it one of the 100 greatest English-language novels published since 1923; critic Lev Grossman described it as "a deeply unsettling existential horror story, a nightmare you'll never be sure you've woken up from".
