"How dogs performed a job was, for previous generations, far more important than purity of lineage or aesthetic qualities."

About the author

MARK SULLIVAN (Editor): Mark's interest in Greyhounds started with regular visits to White City Stadium, and this deepened when his family started to own racing dogs. Mark worked in racing kennels at weekends, became an owner-trainer, and at the age of 19 he took out a trainer's licence. He enjoyed a number of successes with his dogs before going into racing administration. Spells in the racing office at Slough and Wimbledon led to an appointment with the Racing Post and then with The Sporting Life. During his time on the 'The Life', Mark earned a place in the Guinness Book of Records for tipping 12 winners from 12 races at Wimbledon at accumulated odds of 279, 256-1. He now works as a freelance writer and broadcaster, and with his wife Martina, runs the National Greyhound Racing Club for the British Greyhound Racing Board. See Part II: The Racing Greyhound.
