This is an early copy of "Under the Window" - Pictures & Rhymes for Children by KATE GREENAWAY. Circa 1890s or earlier (there is no date of publication stated, but there is an inscription on the front end paper dated 1896); George Routledge & Sons; New York. The book is beautifully illustrated in color throughout by Greenaway.
Condition:
Some light soiling to the front cover; the back cover has some stains along the left edge; worn corners. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages; there is a 1" paper tear at the front hinge between the end paper and pastedown. The text pages are in great condition and clean with one exception - there is smudging over the last illustration of the Contents section (see photos); name/year (1896) written in pencil on front end paper...no other writing found.
