Philadelphia: Childs & Peterson, 1857. Later edition. Hardcover. Very near Fine. Large 8vo. [4] (pages of publisher's advertisements), [6], vii-xix, [2], 14-552, [4] (pages of publisher's advertisements) pp. Recent beige cloth with red morocco labels (contemporary to the leaves) lettered in gilt mounted on the spine; all edges marbled. Marbled endpapers and pastedowns. Illustrated with an engraved frontispiece portrait of Kane, a fold-out map, several plates from drawings by Kane engraved on steel, wood engravings in the text, and an occasional full-page wood engraving. Although rebound, still a lovely example. The binding and the leaves are beautiful and bright, the marbled free front endpaper's verso has a contemporary nameplate.
