About This Item
NY: Street & Smith (Medal Library No. 232), 1903. Paperback. FAIR. Tight, square text block but part of spine covering has been replaced with clear tape (tilting the cover) and back cover is missing, age soil to exterior, pages clean but age tanned, faintest curl. Covers are chipped, creased, marked and show their age.(115 years). DIME NOVELS - Printed on the cheapest of paper, with lurid cover illustrations, dime novels (which found a name in their ten cent price tag)...were considered ephemeral, to be read, often in secret, passed on to friends, or discarded. Dime novels... targeted a youthful working class audience with their thrilling, stereotyped tales of Wild West adventures, master criminals, detective stories, historical romances, and working girls and boys in which virtue was rewarded and preserved. 4.75x7x0.5", 288 pages
