About This Item

Ludion, 2020. First Edition. Hardcover. New. Large 8vo 9" - 10. Brand-new, still in shrink-wrap, neither shelf- nor edge-worn, neither sunned nor marked as a remainder, and bound handsomely in illustrated blue cloth over boards, pictorial, edited by Xavier Cannone, trilingual in English, Dutch and French. Big, tall, heavy Imperial octavo hardcover format. "Vendredi" was one of the most unusual magazines issued by the Belgian Surrealists. It was written by hand, never published formally as a magazine, and was created weekly from 1949 until the end of 1951. There were over 100 issues all in, composed mostly by Paul Colinet, Rene Magritte, Marcel Marien, Irene Hamoir, and Pierre Alechinsky, among others. Acting as Editor, Colinet sent each issue of the magazine in mock-up to his nephew, the artist Robert Willems. Each issue contained illustrations, handwritten poems, texts, news items, jokes, drawings, collages, and newspaper cuttings. This facsimile edition of 900 pages of cover paper offers a unique testimony to the versatility of Belgian surrealism. Each Vendredi number is a work of art in itself: the pages are beautifully illustrated and contain handwritten poems and all kinds of writings, news, jokes, drawings, collages and newspaper clippings.
