About This Item
Warminster: The Library. Fair. 1896. Hardcover. Unpaginated, 16 photographic leaves showing views of Warminster. No date but one source shows 1896 -- street images show only horse and carriage, no automobiles. Ribbed dark brown cloth horizontal octavo with blind ruling, gilt to front cover. Spine is perished and repaired with black library tape, some small faint marks to the front cover. Interior floral endpapers of the period with wear at the gutter, webbing showing, crude tape repair at back gutter, plates are clean and unmarked. Not a perfect copy but certainly a scarce one! Not in WorldCat and barely on Google. There is no title page, only the name of the book and "A. H. Coates, The Library, Warminster" on the cover. Coates was at one time the Secretary of the Warminster Club. He was the proprietor and editor of the Warminster Journal for 60 years. His first love was cricket but he was also an excellent billiards player. His 1959 obituary noted: "He was no less well known with his ability with the billiard cue and even a few months before his retirement could hold his own with any player in the town at snooker." ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 16 pages .
