About the author

JOHN A. JAKLE is a distinguished American geographer and professor emeritus in the departments of geography and landscape architecture at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Jakle's prolific career has focused on interpreting American cultural and historical landscapes, with particular emphasis on roadside and urban landscapes. He has authored or co-authored numerous influential works examining American geography, including studies on fast food restaurants, Main Street hotels, postcards, roadside America, and automotive culture.
