About This Item

New York: Viking Press, 1957. First US Edition/First Printing. Hardcover. Good/Poor. The scarce true First US Edition of one of the author's classics. The vast majority in the marketplace being book club editions. In blue 3/4 cloth binding blindstamped to front board and lighter blue cloth to spine with darker blue title panels with design motifs. Silver foil and dark blue to type. Top page ends tinted but faded. Light dings to corners and rubbing to heel of spine with some wear at head as well. Three inch split to front hinge at endpapers towards top. Jacket is unclipped ($5.00) with large chip approximately 1 inch high with tear and 2 inches across to head of spine. Smaller chips with associated tears to corners and heel of spine. Bottom front corner with longer tear has tape repair. Some small puncture alongside spine which is tanned with some small droplet stains. Creasing across front cover.

Synopsis

PATRICK WHITE (1912-1990), an Australian novelist and playwright, won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1973. His novel The Vivisector was shortlisted for the Lost Man Booker Prize in 2010.
