[Rosove 286.A3, Conrad p. 121, Spence 1050]. Robert Falcon Scott (1868-1912) was one of the most famous British Royal Navy explorers that led two expeditions to the Antarctic. This 1901-1904 expedition was noted for being one of the most well equipped for science and discovery in the Heroic Age of polar expeditions in the late 1890's to 1922. Scott was promoted by the Sir Clements Markham of the Royal Geographical Society and the focus of the expedition was science and to gain experience in a future attempt for the South Pole. In addition to this book, there was an eleven volume series on the scientific findings published by the British Museum. This is a classic tale and one of the foundation books to any polar collection.
