A very smart first edition, second impression copy of this illustrated account of a voyage by Rockwell Kent. The first edition, second impression of this fascinating work by Rockwell Kent. A unique and engaging account of the author's travels along the coasts of Tierra del Fuego to Cape Horn on a small sailing boat, brought to life by beautiful illustrations. Rockwell Kent was an American painter and illustrator, a writer, as well as a sailor, adventurer, and voyager. From the library of Eric Kenneth Prentice Back. Kenn Back was a British meteorologist with the British Antarctic survey for many years. He spent eight winters in the Antarctic and is a descendent of Captain George Back. In addition, he served as base commander at Halley, Faraday and Rothera stations. His library collection was built over decades and highlights his love of polar exploration.Thoroughly illustrated. In the original publisher's blue cloth binding, with titles stamped in gilt to front board and spine. Externally smart with slight shelfwear, minor rubbing to top joint. Slight bumping to head and tail of spine and extremities. Gilt to front board is slightly rubbed. Kenn Back's bookplate to recto front free endpaper. Internally, binding is slightly loose to front and rear board, otherwise firm throughout. Pages are bright and clean. Complete with frontispiece and sixty nine illustrations. Very Good
