First edition hardcover, with dust jacket, published by Beacon Press, 1997. Behar proposes allowing personal perspective in the study and writing of Anthropology, stating that this will allow for a greater depth of understanding and feeling. 195 pages with Index and Notes, 5-3/4" X 8-1/2". The dust jacket is intact and is not price clipped. No former ownership marks, no writing on the text pages. Edges of the text block are clean. Sewn binding is tight and square. Sturdy cover boards with purple cloth covered spine. Cover boards are flat and the corners are not bumped or worn. This copy is not a remainder, not a library discard copy. Attached photo is of the copy we have in our inventory.

Synopsis

Ruth Behar-ethnographer, essayist, editor, and poet-is professor of anthropology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She gained national prominence with her book Translated Woman: Crossing the Border with Esperanza's Story. Her honors include a MacArthur Fellows Award and a John Simon Guggenheim fellowship.
