Inscribed on the title page by the two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize for his two volume-biography of W.E.B. Du Bois (1994, 2001); the first such author to win the Pulitzer Prize for biography for two volumes on the same subject. These works were written while working as the Martin Luther King, Jr. Professor of History at Rutgers University. Professor Lewis was awarded the National Humanities Medal by President Obama in 2009. William Edward Burghardt (W.E.B.) Du Bois (1868-1963) was the first African American to earn a doctorate from Harvard University and one of the founders of the NAACP in 1909. 6x9.25 in.
