About This Item

Northampton: Northamptonshire Libraries and Information Service, 1992. Hardcover. VG. Navy blue cloth, gilt letters on spine, gilt decoration on spine & front cover; maroon & color illus. dust jacket, 475 pp., BW & color illus. "The Wakes can be traced back to Norman times. Branches of the family settled throughout England but the main focus has long been in Northamptonshire, first in Blisworth, then at Salcey Forest and from the seventeenth century at Courteenhall. In 1621 Baldwin Wake was created the first of a distinguished line of baronets which remains unbroken to the present day. The book traces the history of the many Wakes who have played an outstanding part in national and international affairs. ... This book abounds with fascinating details of the social history of a family through twenty-nine generations and its contribution to the life of the nation." (dj).
