About This Item

Del Rey, 1978. First edition. Hardcover. Fine/fine. Fine in fine dust jacket. First edition. Hardcover. 312 pages. Illustrated with photographs. Frederick Pohl (1919-2013) was one of the acknowledged masters of science fiction. In addition to being an award-winning author, he was an early whiz-kid editor, pioneering anthologist, and aggressive literary agent. In this autobiographical account, Pohl relates things like: what Isaac Asimov was at age 19; the truth behind the great World SF Convention War of 1939; how as a teenager he became a mover and shaker in the pulp magazine world (where authors often made 1/2 to 3-cents per word); the strange mating rites of the SF community; how to represent most of the best writers and still go broke.
