Seattle: The Mountaineers, 1981. First Edition . Hardcover. Fine/Fine. FIRST PRINTING. Original blue boards, gilt lettering spine. FINE condition in FINE dust jacket that is 100% complete, clean, no tears, no chips. This book measures 222mm tall x 135mm, and has 271 pages, 36 b/w photos, index. Welzenbach, superb climber, is credited with being first to use an ice piton, and invented modern route grading. He made many first ascents & climbs in the Bernese Alps. He died in 1934 on Nanga Parbat; Roberts, the author of this book, died at age 33 on Annapurna.
