About This Item

Grosset & Dunlap, 1924. First Edition. Very Good/Very Good. Vintage Hardcover with scarce DJ, First Edition 1924 Grosset & Dunlap 229 pages, followed by two pages of ads (one for Pee-Wee Harris books and one for Tom Slade books. Very Good, in a VG DJ. Minor shelf/edge wear to red cloth boards with black spine titles and front cover titles in green but outlined in black - corners sharp with wear to the tips. Slight cock to spine. Minor shelf/edge wear, a few closed tears and dust soiling to original unclipped uncoated DJ - now in mylar. Previous owner inscription on FFEP "To Gerald Carr From Howard xmas 1926". Despite the minor flaws of the DJ it's still beautiful. Underside of DJ lists hundreds of titles for series books by Grosset. DJ proudly states "Approved By The Boy Scouts Of America". Artwork (DJ and 3 B&W plates) by Richard Holberg. Frontispiece is on coated paper and is B&W (also by Holberg). No previous owner markings - all pages are clean and unmarked with the exception of very small light smudges to the margins of 3 pages, pg 77, 117 and 191. Percy Keese Fitzhugh (September 7, 1876 – July 5, 1950) was an American author of nearly 100 books for children and young adults. The bulk of his work, having a Boy Scouting theme, revolves around the fictional town of Bridgeboro, New Jersey. Major characters included Tom Slade, Pee-Wee Harris, Roy Blakeley, and Westy Martin. Each of these characters had their own, distinctly different, series of books. The last title of the Westy Martin Series on the inside flap of the DJ also matches the title of this book. Part of the Westy Martin Series, this is the second title in a series of 8 books, Per Mattson, #63500. A very handsome vintage copy in a beautifully preserved DJ with a few minor flaws.LOC SSS-09
