About This Item
London: William Heinemann, 1909 . First edition. Cloth. Very Good. 7" by 4.5". R. Caton Woodville. A smart, illustrated copy of Hall Caine's controversial novel, complete in two volumes. First edition, in the publisher's original red cloth binding. Complete in two volumes. Part of Heinemann's Library of Modern Fiction collection. Written by popular British novelist, dramatist, poet and critic, Sir Thomas Henry Hall Caine, known as Hall Caine. 'The White Prophet' tells the story of Colonel Charles George Lord, a British officer who joins the crusade of Ishmael Ameer, a Muslim prophet who works against selfishness and sedition. This book was a response to difficulties in Egypt regarding British officers falsely accusing and then shooting locals. 'The White Prophet' is Caine's only work to not be reprinted, largely due to its sympathies with Egyptian nationalism. With three illustrations and a frontispiece to each volume. Collated, complete. In the publisher's original red cloth binding. Externally, smart, with light rubbing to the joints and to the extremities. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine. A touch of fading to the spine. Light spotting to endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean, with the odd spotting to pages and to the fore edge. Very Good
