About This Item
London: Macmillan, 1981. First edition. Paperback. Very Good. 8.5" by 5.5". None. An uncorrected proof copy of the poet Yevgeny Yevtushenko's first novel. Yevgeny Yevtushenko was one of the most famous post-Stalin generation of Russian poets, as well as a novelist, essayist, dramatist, screenwriter, publisher, actor, editor and director of several films. Yevtushenko is renowned as one of the primary spokesman for the younger post-Stalin generation of Russian poets, whose internationally publicized demands for greater artistic freedom and for a literature based on aesthetic rather than political standards. Beyond his extensive poetical works, that were distinguished for there 'brash, slangy, and unpoetic language', Yevtushenko also wrote a number of novels, of which this, his 'Wild Berries' (or 'Yagodnyye Mesta') was his first. Translated by Antonina W. Bouis; "the best literary translator from Russian" (as called by the American weekly trade news magazine targeted at publishers, librarians, booksellers and literary agents, 'Publishers Weekly'). In a paper wrap. Externally, sound. Some agetoning to edges and bumping to extremities. Some spotting to spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Very Good
