Despite title, the volume covers wild flowers beyond the borders of California to the north and southwest. Chicagao-born Mary Elizabeth Parsons (1859 - 1947) was a member of the California Academy of Sciences from 1900. New York-born Margaret Warriner Buck (1857 - 1929) illustrated for Sunset Magazine as well.
