About This Item

New York: Random House, 1939. First Trade Edition. Contains two long separate stories. "The Wild Palms" is a study of integrity in love. "Old Man" is an astonishing account of the Mississippi River flood of 1927 and of an "escaped" convict's adventures in trying to get back to prison; the tale is a tribute to the essential courage, dignity, and reliability of the Mississippi hillfolk" (Coan, pp.58-59). Petersen A19b; Brodsky & Hamblin 475. First Printing. Octavo (20.75cm); first binding in beige cloth, with titles stamped in gilt and dark green on spine and front cover; dark green topstain; dustjacket; [iv],339,[1]pp. Upper corners gently tapped (though still sharp), with some fading to topstain, else a fresh, very Near Fine copy. Dustjacket is unclipped (priced $2.50), with light wear to extremities, a few tiny tears, and a tiny stain to lower rear panel; an unrestored, Near Fine example, without the usual sunning to the spine panel.

Synopsis

If I Forget Thee, Jerusalem is a novel by the American author William Faulkner published in 1939. The novel was originally published under the title The Wild Palms, which is the title of one of the two interwoven stories. This title was chosen by the publishers, Random House, over the objections of Faulkner's choice of a title.
