About This Item

Fort Worth, Texas / London: Amon Carter Museum / Third Millenium Publishing, 2003. Hardbound. VG / VG. Black cloth with illustrated dustjacket. 255 pp. 124 text figures and 55 large color plates. Contains a series of seven essays covering the key influences and major achievements of an artist who was recognized in his lifetime as the leader among monuments on western themes. Examples of his monumental works can be found in many major American cities, from New York City and Washington D. C., to Chicago, Dallas, Denver, and Portland, Oregon. The catalogue section presents fifty-three of Proctor's most important works and includes both major monumental pieces, like Theodore Roosevelt (1922) in Portland, Oregon, like the Buffalo Head for the State Dining Room at the White House (1909) and the massive Mustangs at the University of Texas, Austin (1948), as well as smaller studio pieces such as his Indian Warrior (1900-02) and Panther (1922-23). In addition to a bibliography, the volume also contains an exhibition history, a full listing of monumental public works, the artist"s chronology, and personal recollections by the artist"s son and grandson.
