Chicago: The S.J. Clarke Publishing Company, 1924. First edition. Hardcover. Near Fine. 4 vol. Large 8vo. [2], 5-608, [2]; [2], 3-599, [1]; [4], 5-678; [4], 5-682 pp. Green publisher's cloth (reinforced with green cloth at the gutters) with a border in blind on each board, the spines in five compartments, gold lettering on the spines; all edges marbled. Marbled endpapers and pastedowns. Illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of the author in volume one, volume one also with several full-page illustrations. Volume two is also illustrated with several full-page images and a color frontispiece of the state flag. Volumes three and four with several full-page black and white photographs, the photographs depict the subjects in the short biographies included in the volume. The history begins with a chapter on the Native people of Wisconsin, contines with the first European exploration of Wisconsin, and concludes at the early twentieth century. The illustrations depict the driftless area, buffalo, the early capitols of Wisconsin, and several notable figures in Wisconsin history. A detailed history of the midwestern state. An inscription on each free front endpaper and a dampstain on the first volume's rear board.
