Top edge gilt. Remains particularly well-preserved overall; tight, bright, clean and strong. Provenance: Book plate of Gerald Robinson. Signed by author. Limited Edition of 260 of which this is number 120. Physical description: 104 pages, 1 unnumbered leaf of plates: illustrations; 27 cm. Summary: The first part of this novel is based upon the Andria, a comedy of Terence who in turn based his work upon two Greek plays, now lost to us, by Menander. The Woman of Andros reflected Wilder's understanding of the classics. In the character of Chrysis the author created his archetype of of the virtue of hope. Subjects: Courtesans Greece; Fiction.
