Nicely illustrated antique copy of "Woman's Handiwork in Modern Homes" by Constance Cary Harrison. 1882; Charles Scribner's Sons; New York. This edition features five colored chromolithograph plates (two by Louis C. Tiffany) and numerous black & white illustrations (some of which span two pages). Here are some examples of the contents: The Governing Rules of Decorative Art; Stitches, Ancient and Modern; Appropriateness and Color; Frames; Textiles Used for Embroidery; Applique; Macrame Lace; China Painting; Oil-Colors on Silk or Satin; Painting on Mirrors; Menus and Dinner Cards; Painted Tables; Hints for Decorating; Wood-Carving; The Mantel-Shelf; Piano Decoration and Drapery; Japanese Art in Decoration; The Curtains for the Drawing-Room; Odds and Ends; Tea-Cup Time; Decorations of the Dinner-Table...and much more. There is a list of illustrations at the front and an Index at the back. Found within the book were four old newspaper clippings related to homemaking and food. Condition: Small white stains at the right-hand and bottom edges of the front cover; soiling and small stains on the back cover. Cloth tears at the corners. The top and bottom edges of the spine are worn down. Tight binding with no loose pages. There is a crack at the front hinge between the copyright and dedication pages resulting in the front cover being just a bit shaky. Nice pages - clean with no issues found. There is a name/date (1883) written in pencil on the front end paper. Overall the book is in Good condition.
