A fascinating monograph, on the minority ethnic Wa people in the Awa mountains of S. China. Compiled by Yunnan Publicity Centre for Foreign Countries. This marvelous series consists of 13 monographic works, each devoted to a separate ethnic minority. They cover in partic- ular order: Bai, Achang, Wa, Dai, Jinuo, Yao, Buyi, Naxi, Lahu, Pumi, Dulong, Manchu and Han peoples. Each is individ- ually authored. Each covers the their geographical setting, weaving, costume, some are tattooed, ceremonies, folk activ- ities, crops, food, clothing, ornaments, fashion, culture, smoking habits, social status, dancing, music, marriage customs, maternity customs, rites, beliefs, kinship, female role in society, matriarchial societies &c. A lovely look at the current minorities. * Hidden in Yunnan province, the Wa are among several minority peoples who have stuck to the old ways and culture, and even dress. This monograph outlines their life, customs, and way of life. * .
