"Sainte-Croix, small town up in the Jura mountains of the Canton of Vaud, lies at an altitude about 1000 metres, close to the French border. For over one and a half centuries, it has perpetuated the traditional manufacture of music boxes, in spite of fashions and crises. In 1973, attracted by the know-how of the inhabitants of this area, a creator and restorer of automata came to settle in Bullet, a village in the vicinity of Sainte-Croix. Thanks to him and to one of his pupils, the land of music boxes has also become the land of automata. This book bears witness to what was - and still is today - the work of these craftsmen of dreams, dedicated to making objects from another age whose childlike grace and romantic charm will continue to fascinate and enchant us for many years to come.
