His novels are regarded to be just like his conversation. Many of his writings depict a damaged English society of half-pay officers. However, the unconventional construction and conversational tone of his military books earned him his reputation. Many of his novels were based on his own life experiences. Front joint and hinge to Barrington are tender. Small loss to tail of spine to Bramleighs of Bishop's Folly due to rubbing. Small loss to head of spine to That Boy of Norcott's Etc, alongside a crack to head of front joint. Small loss to backstrip of Sir Brook, particularly at the head and tail due to rubbing. Backstrip to Sir Brooke is lifting at the head and is tender. Loss to page 503 of Lord Kilgobbin, resulting in imprint being lost. Crack to head of both joints to Luttrell of Arran.
