A lovely set of the collected works of Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen.Ibsen was one of the founders of modernism in theatre, and was one of the most influential playwrights of his time. His early work 'Peer Gynt' was a surreal work in verse, though Ibsen later abandoned verse format and wrote in realistic prose. 'Prose Dramas', in five volumes, published by Walter Scott. Volume I states 'Authorised Translation' and 'Second Edition', Volumes II-V state 'Authorised English Edition'.'Brand, A Dramatic Poem', published in 1899 by Methuen & Co, the third edition. Translated into English by William Wilson. 'Hedda Gabler', undated, published by De Witt Publishing House, translated by Edmund Gosse. 'Peer Gynt, A Dramatic Poem', dated 1892 from a copy held at the British Library, published by Walter Scott. translated by William and Charles Archer. Errata slip to the rear. Bound without publisher's adverts. 'The Master Builder', a new edition published by William Heinemann in 1893. Externally, generally smart, with a little discolouration to the boards. Some spots and handling marks to the boards. Minor rubbing to the spine labels. Spines are a little discoloured. Light spots to the fore edge. Bookplate to the front paste downs. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with scattered spots to the endpapers and first and last few pages. Very Good
