[12] (pages of publisher's advertisements), [7], viii-xxxiii, [2], 2-681, [3] pp. Contemporary sheep with the spine in five compartments, a red morocco label lettered in gilt on the spine. Illustrated with a frontispiece of a bust of Horace. A new edition with corrections and improvements. Evans 56368. Meyer Reinhold, "Anthon, Charles." Anthon was respected for his expertise on ancient philology. The scholar introduced new standards of translation and critical examination of the Latin language to American university classrooms. Anthon is also famous for his involvement with supposedly examining the golden plates on behalf of Joseph Smith. A comprehensive edition of Horace, translated by a historically important American classicist. Some rubbing to the extremities, a contemporary bookplate and a few pencil annotations.
