About This Item
Edinburgh and London: John Grant, 1925. Cloth. Very Good/Fine. 8.5" by 5.5". None. An exceptional, complete set of the works of esteemed early modernist author Joseph Conrad. With the extremely scarce dustwrappers. A wonderful complete set of Joseph Conrad's works. Comprising: Volume I: 'Almayer's Folly' ; Volume II 'An Outcast of the Islands' Volume III: 'Of the Narcissus' ; Volume IV: 'Lord Jim'; Volume V: 'The Inheritors', Volume VI: 'A Narrative of Short Stories'. Volume VII: 'Romance' Volume VIII: 'Nostromo'; Volume IX: 'The Mirror of the Sea'; Volume X: 'The Secret Agent'; Volume XI 'A Set of Six'; Volume XII: 'Under Western Eyes'; Volume XIII ''Twixt Land and Sea; Volume XIV: 'Chance'; Volume XV: 'Victory an Island Tale'; Volume XVII: 'The Arrow of Gold'; Volume XVI 'The Shadow-Line Within the Tides'; Volume XVIII: 'The Rescue'; Volume XIX 'Notes on Life and Letters'; Volume XX: 'The Rover'. Conrad's mastery at prose brought a non-English sensibility into English literature. His novels were typically a nautical setting, and his ability to depict the trials of the human spirit in an impassive universe has been celebrated for over a century. The proponent of the anti-hero, Conrad's writings have influenced many authors and screenwriters to date. An exceptional find with these original dustwrappers in a fine condition. In the publisher's original cloth binding. With the very scarce original dustwrappers. Externally, the dustwrappers are in fine condition. Just some minor shelfwear to the dustwrapper of volume VI. Patches of discolouration to the board edges of Volumes IV, V, VI, VIII, and XIX. This discolouration, does not affect dustwrappers. Minor damp staining to the edges of volume XVIII affecting the front pastedown. Heavy discolouration to the boards of 'The Rover' volume XX and 'Almmayer's Folly' volume I. Internally, all volumes are firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good
