A complete two volume set of The Works of Mr. Francis Rabelais. Francis Rabelais was a French Renaissance writer, physician and Greek Scholar. He is primarily known as a writer of satire of the grotesque and of jokes and songs. These volumes contain five books of the lives, heroic deeds and sayings or Gargantua and his Sonne Pantagruel and have been privately printed for the Navarre Society and translated from the original French into English. Richly illustrated throughout the text by W. Heath Robinson. With fifty five illustrations and a frontispiece to volume one and forty three illustrations and a frontispiece to the second volume.In the original unclipped dust wrappers. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart with some light marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound with bright and clean pages.
