About This Item

London: Printed for C. Bathurst, et All, 1773. Small Octavos. . In 8 volumes, portrait frontispiece of Shakespeare at the age of 40 and two title pages in volume 1, with other portraits by J. Hall. The last volume contains a bibliography of early editions (commencing with the Jaggard canon). It is divided into three sections, headed: 'Editions of authority, of middle authority and of no authority. The latter includes Rowe's edition (with presumably the biography) of 1709. The British Museum set bears MS. notes of S.T. Coleridge. All volumes bound in contemporary calf, all joints had been sympathetically repaired by the owner and quite sturdy, chipping to spine ends and overall general wear, internally quite clean without foxing.
