Bath: Kingsmead, 1977. Cloth. Fine/Very Good Indeed. 11" by 7.5". None. Facsimile edition of three treatises giving insights into 17th century surgery, with an inscription from the editor. Presentation copy signed by the editor. A facsimile of Books V, VI, and VII from Richard Wiseman's 'Severall Chirurgcall Treatises' published in 1676. Sergeant Surgeon to Charles II, Wiseman shares cases from his practice in the military, navy, and amongst civilians. Giving insight to the state of accident surgery three centuries ago, Wiseman's descriptions are supplemented by illustrations of contemporary instruments and equipment at the beginning of the book. With an introduction, glossary, and appendix by John Kirkup. Inscription to the half title - 'For Hartmut Goethe, with the kindest regards of the editor'. Signed and dated 15th October 1986 by Kirkup. Ink stamp at bottom of page, reading 'entliehen oder gestohlen bei Harmut Goethe' - borrowed or stolen from Harmut Goethe. Stamp seen again on page 441. In the original price-clipped dust wrapper. In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original price-clipped dust wrapper. Externally, very smart. Lightly bumped to the head and tail of the spine with a little wear to the extremities. Small tear at front tail joint, and a very small closed tear to the rear wrap. Four tape repairs to the reverse of the dust wrapper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Fine
