White endpapers with black-and-white yin and yang symbol on green background. Illustrated dust jacket. Bookdealer's label on back free endpaper recto: Holliday Bookshop, New York. Former owner's inscription on front free endpaper: "Villard, 115 E 67th St. NYC November, 1936." In 1940, Katharine and Vincent Villard lived at 115 E. 67th St., New York City. Title page in red and black. Stated First Edition. American author Alice Tisdale Hobart (1882-1967) drew on her experiences in China from 1908 to around 1940 for her many articles and novels. Book is in Near Fine Condition: former owner's inscription on front free endpaper; otherwise, clean and tight. Dust jacket is in Good Condition: loss at ends of spine, upper edge, and along back joint; rubbed; color is bright.
