This is an indispensable reference work to all the available textual, critical, musical, and dramatical commentary on the seventy songs that by the author's count, appear in the canon of Shakespeare's Plays. The songs are taken in the generally accepted chronology of the plays. For the serious student Seng's work will be invaluable. This work has forced the entire community of Shakespeare scholars for consider a critical re-examination of the whole problem of the relationship between music and poetry in Shakespeare. The author has inscribed to his friend Kyran P. Conarchy, Jr "for my friend and confidante of 30 years with the affection and admiration that falls short of his due." IV, 4, 67. Professor Seng died in 1999, his friend Kyran P. Conarchy died in 2013.Near fine copy bound in maroon cloth lettered in gilt spine lettering gilt over black in a near fine unclipped dust jacket lettered and decorated in black, spine just a bit faded. A very nice copy.
