Denver: Smith-Brooks Printing Company, 1927. 1st ed. Hardcover. Good. photos, xvii, 212, (19)p. Original blue cloth. 27 cm. Slightly musty. Cover sound with moderate soiling and wear. Inked note on front pastedown: "From: Ben Washington, Co. H. 25th Infantry." Uncommon history of this African American regiment. The 25th served in the West, saw action in the Spanish American War, and was later stationed in the Philippines, Hawaii and Arizona. Nankivell, the author ,is identified on title-page as Captain, 25th Infantry and appears on page 156 as a white officer in the front row of a group photo. Private Washington, whose inscription appears on the pastedown, appears in Row 3 of the group photograph of Company H.
